  • David Lamy

What classes do you currently teach?

I do it all. Gravity, Spin, and Bootcamp

    What are your certifications/qualifications?

Reebok Spin certified in 1999. Personal Trainer certified in 1999. Coaching certifications mid 90's. Registered Massage Therapist 1999 - so I'm a bit of a stickler for proper form and safety.

Why did you become an instructor?

I love health and fitness. It's not my hobby, it's my lifestyle - teaching fitness is my hobby.  I knew a lot of people who wanted to be healthy but didn't know where or how to safely start. It was the obvious choice for me. Plus I really love pushing people to find out what they can accomplish - it's usually a lot more than they think.

What is your personal philosophy on health and fitness?

If you are starting out, "No Pain, No Gain" is a one way ticket to injury and giving up on exercise. It's all about Goals. Set smart goals daily and achieve them. The more goals you accomplish the bigger your new ones will become. Also, if you're not going to do the exercise right, don't do it at all. There are tons of variations or modifications if needed.

What can customers expect when they take a class with you?

Good music. Always open to suggestions :)

I won't get in your face and yell at you, but you may want to yell at me.  You can expect to reach your smart goals. You can expect that I will show you how to do exercises properly. Most of all, you can expect to have fun.

What activities do you enjoy outside of the studio?

Cycling trips, marathon running, training people for Obstacle Course races, and building things in my man cave.

  • Jesse Klett

What classes do you currently teach?

For the past 5 years I have been working as a personal trainer and for the past 3 years as a group fitness instructor. My main focus is one-on-one or small group training. I also teach classes such as gravity, bars and plates, stability ball, and abdominal focused classes and running bootcamps.

    What are your certifications/qualifications?

I have a Level 3 YMCA advanced certification in personal training as well as in group fitness leadership and gravity training.

Why did you become an instructor?

I became an instructor because I have a passion for fitness and physical activity. Growing up I was always into team sports, track and field and martial arts. I took Tae Kwan Do for 8 years and earned a black belt at 17. So having a background in those areas plus weight lifting drove me to get into this field of work. I work with people that want to improve themselves both physically and mentally so I can share my knowledge and skills to help them achieve their goals.

What is your personal philosophy on health and fitness?

My philosophy on heath and fitness is pretty simple. You get out what you put in. That goes for most things in life and no exception with heath and fitness. No pain no gain is another slogan I go by. If you're exercising and have no muscle fatigue, or sweat running down your body chances are you're not working hard enough. Push to your limits and you'll see a difference. Diet is a huge factor to consider also. Put good things in your body and it will go a long way.

What can people expect when they take a class with you?

When people take a class with me they can expect a fun yet challenging workout. I will do my best to push each participant to their limit. In my gravity classes I try to hit every muscle group at some point with a good portion of the class working on core muscles. I want people leaving knowing they got a workout they will feel the next morning. I come up with fresh ideas and put twists on basic exercises.

What activities do you enjoy outside of the studio?

Outside of rpm I do a lot of personal training and work at the West End Y. I workout 5 to 6 times a week and play basketball several times a week as well. I'm in the gym most of the time either working or training myself. Professional sports is  a hobby of mine so when I not participating in fitness and sports I'm watching them on TV or attending events. Biking, video games and being outdoors are also things I enjoy.

  • Kathy Westgate

What classes do you currently teach?

    Currently I am teaching a 9:30am spin @ RPM

    What are your certifications/qualifications?

I have been spin and yoga certified for 10 years.  I have completed the required courses for a  lifetime certification by Mad Dogg Spin.

Why did you become an instructor?

For one of those “big” birthdays, I was gifted with the Mad Dogg Spin Instructor course.  I had been a long distance National Team runner for years and it was time for a change.  I had never been on a spin bike but fell in love with the experience.  I was tired of pounding out miles on the road so the cross training saved me from the injuries my friends were experiencing.

What is your personal philosophy on health and fitness?

Incorporating a fitness routine to strengthen the heart and cardio system provides benefits extending to ones emotional wellbeing, ability to manage stress, while maintaining a healthy body weight and positive relationships.

What type of music do you put on during your classes?

I love working with music and creating diversity in playlists.  Incorporating rhythms that set the tone to sustain a tempo with the pedals.  Mixing those selections of more familiar tones.  I look for lyrics that encourage positive thought and an overall meaningful experience.

What can customers expect when they take a class with you?

Each class will have a “theme: and related visualizations to keep it fresh and motivating in the tough times.  Customers will be encouraged to take ownership and make good choices around heart rate, resistance and biking positions.  Rides are “all terrain” and focus on endurance building.

What activities do you enjoy outside the studio?

I enjoy being active and physical – biking, hiking, running and yoga.  As a parent of 4 tweens and teens, I enjoy supporting their endeavors in dance, running, music and camping.

  • Kelley Bosley-Fitzpatrick

What classes do you currently teach?

I teach Spinning, Gravity and Bootcamp, although you will see me around the Gravity studio more in the summer when I'm not working as a school teacher.

    What are your certifications/qualifications?

CanFitPro Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer, JOHNNY G (Mad Dogg Athletics) Spinning, Keiser Spinning, LesMills Programs:  BodyPump, BodyStep, BodyAttack, BodyFlow, RPM.  CPR, First Aid and AED.

Why did you become an instructor?

From a very young age I had a passion for health and fitness.  It wasn't until I moved from Toronto to Vancouver fresh out of high school that I decided to take a course and learn how to actually teach classes rather than simply attend them.  I saw an ad saying that the YMCA was hosting a certification course and I thought it would be a fun way to try it out, meet people who shared a passion with me and spend a weekend working out.  Little did I know, that here I would be 16 years later still teaching and loving fitness!

What is your personal philosophy on health and fitness?

I believe in a total, complete healthy lifestyle - of whole living in all aspects of one's life - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Each aspect affects each other and therefore works with each other. When a person is in great physical shape, they feel great, and more effectively handle life and get the most out of their life. When a person is up, they feel more confident, have more energy, do more things, they accomplish and achieve more, & the more successful they become.

What type of music do you put on during your classes?

Musically I tend to gravitate to trance and electronica.  I find the energy in this music often inspires me during the tough parts and provides a good beat to find a hard working groove.  Having said that, I do recognize that not everyone loves type of music so as a new years resolution, I have promised myself to try and mix up my tunes a little more.  I have already done a Rock N Roll Ride this year!

What can customers expect when they take a class with you?

Customers can expect fun, creative, consistent classes from me.  I make it my goal to work people hard, but also have fun while doing it.  My classes are social, challenging yet doable for everyone!  I encourage people to listen to their bodies first and me second.  We support one another and have made friends in the process.

What activities do you enjoy outside the studio?

I feel incredibly fortunate to say that I feel fulfilled and rewarded in all aspects of my life.  The highlight of my days is my family.  My husband Dave and I have been blessed with 2 sons, Kieran and Quinn.  I love my role as a wife and Mum.  We spend much of our time together laughing, biking, wandering High Park, playing games, reading, cottaging and just being silly.  When I'm not working out or hanging with my family, I am a school teacher at a private boys school not far from here.  I truly feel that I have the best job in the world, working with incredible boys, families and colleagues!  I have recently been asked to be a Lululemon ambassador (Sherway location) which allows me to spend time getting to know people in that community as well.  I am looking forward to all the adventures ahead!
